DK Opening: October 15, 2010

On October 15, 2010 will take place the official opening of the Doctoral Program DK in Discrete Mathematics. There will be several talks given by famous mathematicians, and a presentation of the DK members and students which are involved in DK.

All members (students and professors) of the DK are expected to attend this event.

Program of the DK opening

  • 1115-1145: Introduction of the DK and presentation of the DK members and students
  • 1145-1230: Talk by Prof. Jaroslav Nesetril (Department of Applied Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague)
    Title: Some modern dichotomies of mathematics (and science in general).
  • 1230-1400: Lunch buffet in the front of BE01
  • 1400-1445: Talk by Prof. Bojan Mohar (Simon Fraser University Canada and University of Ljubljana)
    Title: Crossing numbers of graphs as a fundamental mathematical concept.
  • 1445-1515: Coffee break: in the front of BE01
  • 1515-1600: Talk by Prof. Michael Barnsley (Australian National University, Canberra, Australia)
    Title: Theory and applications of fractal transformations.
