TIME
Note that the conference takes place from Monday-Saturday, with arrival
on Monday. Think of it as a time shift of one day.
(We know that this is a bit unusual for maths conferences but
it cannot be changed!)
On Monday 16.2.: arrival at lunch time or afternoon would be best.
You can start with lunch, or arrive later, according to your travel.
Some light programme will start on Monday late afternoon, 16.15ish.
On Saturday morning there will also be some programme.
Departure by Saturday lunch time (you can have lunch!)
Arrival/Travel
On the
travel website of bifeb
links to the Austrian railway (ÖBB or OEBB),
OEBB
and Salzburg traffic company:
Salzburg-Verkehr
adjust date and route.
Regionalbus 150/150X: Salzburg - Koppl - Hof - Fuschl - St.Gilgen - Strobl - Bad Ischl.
(There are also a few more buses 546 from Bad Ischl.)
(If you find a random time table on the internet check it is valid in February 2026).
E.g. if you type in "Salzburg" (or "Muenchen Flughafen" etc.) and "Strobl"
and adjust the date it does what you think it should do.
If you arrive from the east (e.g. Graz) you can go by train to Bad Ischl and take a local
bus to Strobl.
From the bus-station (Busbahnhof) Strobl it is some 15 minutes walk, (1.1km):
walk.
On Mondays and Fridays a shuttle bus can be requested between 8.00 and 15.30 (phone the bifeb
reception ++43 6137 6621 0), (or 06137 6621 0 within Austria).
Programme on arrival day
As some of us have a long journey (e.g. train+bus from Bonn to Strobl is about 9 hours, or more...)
we will start with a very soft programme in the late afternoon, probably coffee from 14.45-ish
3 short talks of participants (with a short journey) around 16.15-ish.
It is possible that you arrive at lunch time,
please mention on your room booking
if you like lunch or dinner on arrival day.
MEALS
The bifeb has a breakfast buffet. For lunch and dinner one can sign up.
We were informed one can do this in Strobl.
But for the arrival day please clarify this with your registration at bifeb.
Their choice includes (at least) a meat and a vegetarian option.
TRAVEL
Here is some info, mainly taken from:
bifeb's travel page
and a
scalable map
by car:
Austrian motorway A1 (exit Regau, Thalgau or Mondsee)
then via Wolfgangsee- regional road (B 158) - exit Strobl Ost
then about 1 km in direction of St. Wolfgang (L 116),
then turn left direction to Bürglstein, after 650m
you have reached bifeb.
There is sufficient and free parking, and connection for electro cars.
closest airports:
Salzburg (55 km), Linz (120 km), München/Munich (190 km), Wien/Vienna (305 km)
From the Train stations Salzburg (45km) and Bad Ischl (12km)
there are buses to Strobl.
Here is a time table (mainly buses, Salzburg-Strobl)
(this need to be updated)
For train connections see
Austrian railway company
For bus connections see:
Postbus
From the Austrian railway link you can for example search from
"München Flughafen terminal" to "Strobl Busbahnhof".
Taxi phone number given on
bifeb webpage.
CONTRIBUTED TALKS
Apart from the invited talks we will have two other formats of contributions.
contributed talks of 20 minutes
mini talks of 5 minutes.
The reason why we have these mini talks is that we expect there could be more
people interested to contribute a talk (also for funding reasons) than we would have time slots.
In Austria and France we recently had good experience with the format.
BLACKBOARDS
As the bifeb is not a maths institute, blackboards may be smaller than at your University.
(1,9m times 1,2 m, it can be turned around/flipped over).
In the past it has worked out.
Presentation by data projector is of course possible, and actually recommended.
There are (small) moveable boards and flip charts, but probably these are good for ad hoc comments
rather than the talk itself.
COSTS
CONFERENCE FEE, and SPONSORS
The conference is supported by the Austrian Science Fund FWF,
(Project ArithRand, I 4945-N) and TU Graz.
There is no conference fee. (But participants pay for
their own accommodation, food, travel and excursion).
EXCURSION.
The excursion will go (by hired coach) to Bad Ischl, especially the Kaiservilla
(english, guided tour).
Kaiservilla (the emperor's summer residence).
The cost is around 40-42 euros.
The bus starts at bifeb.
To save time for the excursion we will have lunch packages,
(which you can order with your usual meals at bifeb).
Note that for Thursday lunch the ONLY option is this lunch package.
After the guided tour at Kaiservilla you can scroll through Bad Ischl.
I heared recommendations to look at "Trinkhalle" and "Cafe Zauner".
But there are many Coffee places etc.
We return by the hired coach at TIME???. (But if you want to stay longer there are many
public buses (for example from the train station).
The hired coach is back on time for bifeb dinner.
THE SURROUNDING
Strobl am Wolfgangsee lies in a touristic area,
this link contains some photos, there can be snow at this time of the year.
Thursday afternoon will be free (see excursion).
