One or two day course
Tuesday 27 June and/or Wednesday 28 June 2006
This course is aimed at students taking A-level Mathematics or an
equivalent qualification. We hope to increase the students' enjoyment
and understanding by illustrating the beauty and power of
mathematics.
Each day there will be talks, problem sessions and hands-on activities
based on mathematics and some of its modern applications. The chief
topics for the two days are:
Tuesday 27 June: How to Count
Wednesday 28 June: Codes and Ciphers
Programme of Exploring Mathematics2006
Abstracts of small group sessions 2006
There will also be tours of the campus and its facilities, short
quizzes, and question and answer sessions with current undergraduates
and staff. The programmes for each day are different, so that you can
attend on Tuesday, Wednesday, or both.
Overnight accommodation in single rooms on campus is available for those
coming on both days, at an inclusive cost of £28 for evening
meal, bed and breakfast. Further information will be sent to students requiring
accommodation.
Further details, including the application form, will be sent to schools
and colleges early in 2006.
