Travel

By plane:

The airport of Graz is well connected with the major airports of Frankfurt, Munich, and Vienna (4 flights daily). Additionally, there are regular flights from/to Berlin and Düsseldorf (daily). For details, please check the airport website.

There are frequent train and bus services between the airport and the main railway station located in the center of Graz. Please check the airport website for timetables.

By train:

There are direct trains running each hour between Graz and Vienna. There are also regular connections to other destinations, e.g., Munich. A train ride will take you through a picturesque and mountainous landscape. However, train connections are slow (Graz - Vienna approx. 2'30h, Graz - Munich approx. 6h) and therefore only recommendable if you enjoy long train rides. Connections can be looked up here.

By car:

You can reach Graz by car via motorway. For example, the distance to Vienna is about 200km, to Munich about 400.

To use the Austrian motorway you have to pay tolls. A road tax vignette should be purchased at gas stations before entering Austria, or at the border. For detailed information, click here. Parking in the center of Graz is an issue. Please check with your hotel about available parking facilities.

Getting around in Graz

Graz is a town of medium size. If you like walking, it is possible to reach the conference venue, the accomodation, the railway station, or the city center, on foot. However, this may be tiring and time consuming. For example, a (rather fast) walk from the conference venue to the railway station takes about 30 minutes.

There is a well-developed system of trams and buses in Graz. Tickets can be purchased from machines at the airport/railway station, inside the tram/bus, and in tobacco and newspaper shops. We recommend to use a week ticket: 'Wochenkarte Zone 101' (€ 11,20). This ticket serves for all trams and buses within town, as well as for buses from/to the airport. It should be stamped inside the tram/bus at the first use, and is valid for 7 days starting from the stamped date.
