About Graz

Graz is the 2nd largest city in Austria with 235.000 inhabitants, the capital of the region of Styria in the Southeast of Austria, 180 km (110 miles) south-west of Vienna. It has an intact old center, hilly surroundings with wine growing areas to the South and mountains to the North.

Graz has three universities (the Karl-Franzens-University, the University of Technology, and the University of Music and Dramatic Arts), a rich cultural life with an opera house, several theaters, including small independent theaters.

The Old Town of Graz is one of the best preserved in Europe and was awarded World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1999. In 2003 Graz was the European Cultural Capital.
